Devol

Devol
   More properly Diabolis, a stronghold and episcopal see (q.v.) situated on the Via Egnatia (q.v.). It was apparently the first stop after Ohrid (q.v.), judging from the Alexiad of Anna Komnene (q.v.). However, its exact location is still unknown. In 1108 Alexios I Komnenos forced Bohemund (qq.v.) to sign the Treaty of Devol, which ended for a time the Norman (q.v.) threat to Byzantine European possessions.
